About two and a half coffees
SCENARIO
You have written a proposal. It is 400 words. It is clear. But the head of department still calls you. They have "suggestions".
They say the framing could be "more punchy at the top" , the section headings should be "more actionable". Also there might be a stronger word than approach — maybe strategy, maybe methodology, maybe thinking.
They have not disagreed with anything you have written, or raised a factual issue, or flagged a gap. They have simply, at length, proposed that the document should be a slightly different document.
RESPONSE
You reply with one word. It's the one on your mug.
It won't keep the micromanagers away. It won't make them less entitled. But for the price of three resolved threads, it might be the shortest reply you've ever written.
